Last spring it was decided that Fisk would allocate $200,000 for student activities this academic year.
“One of the most common complaints of students is that there is not enough to do in terms of social activities and personal development. President O’Leary and members of the President’s Cabinet started this dialog with elected and informal student leadership last semester,” said Barbara Murrell, vice president of the office of student life. “The dedication of these funds to the sole purpose of improving the student experience on campus should address student concerns.”
“Under no circumstances will these funds be reduced,” said President Hazel R. O’Leary. “Our returning students will certainly notice a distinct difference in the level of extracurricular activities this academic year. We are keenly aware that learning and living outside the classroom is just as important academic mastery.”
The specific uses of most of the funds will be decided after student leaders and organizations make recommendations to the office of student life.
