Fisk University’s WFSK again captured the”Best College Talent Award- Nashville Market” honors during the March of Dimes’ 2008 Achievement in Radio (A.I.R.) Awards in Nashville.
Fisk sophomore Priscilla V. Charles, along with grad student Jessica Harris, are among the station’s unit of student interns and helped to capture honors in this year’s contest.
“We submitted Priscilla’s works during the 88.1 ‘Energized & Empowered’ Voter Registration Drive held on our campus”, said Sharon Kay, general manager of 88.1FM WFSK. “We’re delighted that her tremendous effort paid off for WFSK, and are extremely proud of her.”
During the voter registration drive Priscilla produced promotional announcements to encourage students and community members while helping to organize the student-led coalition consisting of seven campus organizations. Additionally, Priscilla did on-air broadcast commentary during the registration drive activities.
The A.I.R. Awards recognizes accomplishments in categories ranging from on-air talent, station events and promos to news and advertising. Entries were judged by broadcasters in major markets outside the Nashville area. Judging criteria for submitted materials included creativity, delivery, production values, knowledge and writing.
The station’s victory marks the second consecutive win in the category by a WFSK station student. Current Fisk sophomore and radio personality Mike Harris helped to capture honors for the station in 2007.
