Congratulations to Isaac Thompson, executive director of Fisk’s THRUST Math and Science After-School Program, for his recent nomination as a finalist for the 2009 Cable Leaders in Learning Award.
THRUST is an academic after school program that provides middle school students with hands-on applications and interaction with the students and facilities of Fisk University in an effort to strengthen math and science skills.
“THRUST incorporates three levels of interaction, influence and instruction via adult, collegiate and peer participation and, as a result, our students are making great gains in the science, technology, engineering and math disciplines,” Thompson said.
Thompson is one of 47 finalists selected from classroom educators, administrators, college faculty and community leaders nationwide. Finalists who are selected as recipients for the final award will be named in May and flown to Washington, D.C. in June to receive a $3,000 prize and attend an awards luncheon. The annual awards program is sponsored by Comcast and Cable in the Classroom and recognizes educators, administrators and other community leaders at the forefront of innovation in education.
