With deep sorrow, Fisk University announces the loss of The Rev. Dr. Andrew McLean Spaulding, Fisk Class of 1934 and father of Fisk University Distinguished Professor Dr. Henry Moses.
After graduating from Fisk, Rev. Dr. Spaulding earned a master’s degree in theology from Yale University. He personified the passion for excellence and learning as he was a professor of Christian ethics for many years at Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury, North Carolina and served diligently as pastor at Mt. Sinai AME Zion Church in Advance, North Carolina for 27 years.
In June 2008 Dr. Moses, professor emeritus of biochemistry and consultant in continuing medical education at Meharry Medical College and distinguished professor of biochemistry at Fisk, established the Andrew McLean Spaulding Scholarship at Fisk University in honor of Dr. Spaulding and in recognition of generations of Fisk graduates who have offered themselves for service in the fields of medicine and research.
Funeral services for Dr. Spalding will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, 11:00a.m. at the Varick Auditorium on campus at Livingstone College, Salisbury, North Carolina. The interment will occur at Rowan Memorial Park.
