Fisk University and Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center (MWCHC) will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening of a new campus health and wellness center for Fisk students and faculty. The ceremony will take place on February 8th, 2010 at 10am.
The Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center at Fisk University will offer onsite, basic primary care services including well and sick visits, annual physicals, chronic care disease management, vision and hearing screenings and family planning. Other services like specialty care, laboratory, radiology and pharmacy dispensing will be offered to Fisk students and faculty at the main location for MWCHC.
“We are excited about taking this new step to further support the students and faculty of Fisk University by offering primary healthcare services including prevention and education. We know that through this effort we can work to reduce health-related student absences thus helping students to succeed further in the classroom,” said Dr. Michele Williams, Medical Director, MWCHC.
“By having a centralized and comprehensive health center, we are able to provide increased options for campus services to our most important asset: our students”, said Jason Meriwether, Dean of Student Life at Fisk.
The new campus Health Center will be open Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2pm each day. The timeframe in which the Health Center will be open will coincide with the Spring and Fall semesters of the University, from February 1st thru April 30th and August 16th thru December 15th.
