At Reliant Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Sheares led the restructuring of the company’s debt and secured the company’s first credit ratings from Moody’s Investor Service and Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services. He also executed a dual path initial public offering/merger and acquisition process resulting in the sale of Reliant to GlaxoSmithKline for $1.67 billion in December of 2007.
At Fisk University, Dr. Sheares earned his bachelors degree in chemistry and graduated summa cum laude in 1978. Dr. Sheares went on to earn his Ph.D. in biochemistry at Purdue University and completed post-doctoral studies at M.I.T.
Dr. Sheares currently serves on the board of directors of Henry Schein, Inc., the largest distributor of health care products to office-based dental, medical and veterinary practitioners; Honeywell International, a diversified technology and manufacturing leader; The Progressive Corporation, one of the largest auto insurance groups in the nation; IMS Health, a leading provider of market intelligence to the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries and Covance, Inc., one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive drug development services companies.
